Role Overview
This role is for a Registered Building Inspector with either Class 2A or Class 2D registration. The position involves a varied portfolio across residential and commercial sectors, with approximately 80% of inspections focused on residential work. It suits someone with strong technical judgement, a solid understanding of building regulations, and the ability to manage a diverse caseload across a multi‑town region.
Coverage Area: The role covers a broad but well‑defined region spanning Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth, and Salisbury, including surrounding coastal towns, inland communities, and rural areas. You will carry out inspections across this wider corridor, ensuring consistent regulatory compliance across a diverse mix of developments.
The role involves close collaboration with builders, developers, architects, and design teams, supporting them in achieving compliance and resolving technical issues throughout the build process.

Key Responsibilities
🏠 Residential (80%)
New‑build housing
Extensions and alterations
Loft conversions
Responsibilities include assessing compliance with building regulations, producing accurate inspection reports, maintaining detailed site records, and providing clear guidance on corrective actions. You will work closely with builders, developers, and architects to resolve compliance issues and support the delivery of safe, compliant construction.
🏢 Commercial (20%)
Retail units and shops
Larger commercial buildings within Class 2D scope
Duties include reviewing plans, assessing compliance with structural, fire safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency requirements, and supporting senior inspectors on more complex commercial schemes where required.
🔧 Warranty & Site Inspection Work
Carrying out a balanced mix of warranty inspections and building control site inspections
Identifying defects, risks, and non‑compliance issues
Providing clear, practical advice to ensure safe and compliant construction
Maintaining accurate digital records and inspection notes
Required Skills & Experience
Registered Building Inspector – Class 2A or Class 2D (mandatory).
Strong working knowledge of building regulations across residential and commercial environments.
Experience conducting site inspections, writing reports, and advising on compliance.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and structural details.
Confident communicator able to engage professionally with builders, developers, architects, and contractors.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload across the Bournemouth-Southampton-Portsmouth-Salisbury region.
Desirable Attributes
Experience with complex residential builds or mixed‑use developments.
Familiarity with digital inspection tools and reporting systems.

Training, Development & Professional Support
Total Training: Class 2A inspectors will be enrolled onto a Class 2D training programme delivered via Total Training.
CABE Training: Access to CABE‑approved CPD, technical workshops, and structured learning pathways.
CABE Company Partner: Enhanced support, resources, and professional development opportunities.
Chartership Support: Full support towards CABE chartership, including mentoring, portfolio guidance, and professional development planning.
Ongoing CPD support to maintain registration and expand technical competencies.

Salary, Benefits & Package
Salary: £45,000 – £60,000 (depending on experience and registration class).
Company Car: Land Rover Defender or car allowance
Car Allowance: £350 per month.
Holiday Entitlement: 38 days total, 4 of which are gifted Christmas closure days.
