Groundworks Estimator | Hitchin, Hertfordshire | c.£60,000 DOE | Permanent | Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00 (ad hoc WFH by agreement)
DARA People are recruiting on behalf of a growing contractor delivering groundworks packages across Bucks, Herts, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. Typical tender values range from £100k to £5m, with an average secured value around £1m. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Groundworks Estimator to take ownership of pricing and tender submissions for relationship-led, repeat client enquiries.
The role will suit a Groundworks Estimator who is confident producing accurate take-offs, building up rates, and working closely with commercial and operational teams to win work profitably.
Responsibilities

Take-offs from drawings and specifications
*
Build-up rates for labour, plant and materials
*
Supplier and subcontractor enquiries, comparisons and selection
*
Prepare and submit full tender submission packs
*
Site visits to support tendering and validate scope
*
Value engineering options and alternative proposals
*
Attend client meetings/bid discussions when required
*
Pre-start and handover meetings to support delivery teams
*
Assist QS team with monthly cost/value reporting (QS leads; estimator supports)
*
Manage tender deadlines (typically 2–4 weeks depending on size)
Requirements
*
Proven experience as a Groundworks Estimator (groundworks/civils/earthworks)
*
Experience pricing tenders up to £5m and producing submission packs
*
Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
*
Confident communicating with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
*
Good IT skills (Excel and tender documentation)
*
CCS Candy beneficial but not essential (training can be provided)
*
Driving licence preferred due to regional site visits
