A well-established and expanding Groundworks Contractor, specializing in the delivery of comprehensive groundworks and infrastructure packages for national PLC housebuilders, is currently seeking a Site Agent for their South Wales division. Following continued growth and a strong pipeline of residential projects, the company requires a professional who combines technical setting out expertise with a robust commercial mindset to oversee site operations.

The Role

The Site Agent will be responsible for the technical and operational delivery of housing groundworks schemes, including roads, sewers, and plot works. This position serves as the primary link between the site production team, the client’s site management, and the internal commercial department.

A critical component of this role involves performing site setting out while maintaining a high level of commercial awareness. The successful candidate will work closely with the Quantity Surveyor to ensure all site activities are accurately recorded and that any variations to the contract are identified and captured to protect project margins.

Key Responsibilities

* Technical Execution: Precise setting out for residential infrastructure, including foundations, drainage, floor slabs, and Section 38/104/278 works.

* Commercial Management: Collaborating daily with the Quantity Surveyor to identify, document, and report variations from the original tender and plot schedules.

* Project Oversight: Interpreting technical drawings and ensuring all groundworks are executed in accordance with client specifications and the construction programme.

* Variation Tracking: Proactively identifying deviations on site and ensuring all "extras" or design changes are communicated to the commercial team for recovery.

* Client Liaison: Acting as the lead technical representative on-site when dealing with PLC housebuilder site managers and technical staff.

* Records & Compliance: Maintaining meticulous site diaries, as-built drawings, and quality control records to support interim valuations and final account agreements.

* Operational Leadership: Coordinating site gangs and subcontractors to ensure high standards of quality, safety, and productivity.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record within the residential groundworks sector and possess the ability to manage the financial implications of site-based decisions.

* Experience: Proven background as a Site Agent or Senior Site Engineer specifically within housing groundworks (roads, sewers, and plot works).

* Technical Skills: Fully proficient in setting out and site control management using EDM/GPS equipment.

* Commercial Acumen: A strong understanding of how site decisions impact the bottom line, with the ability to provide accurate measurement data to the Quantity Surveyor.

* Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to manage client expectations and internal stakeholders.

* Attributes: Detail-oriented, proactive in problem-solving, and capable of managing high-volume residential schemes.

* Qualifications: Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering (Degree or HNC/D), SMSTS, and a valid CSCS card.

* Requirements: A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel to housing developments across the South Wales region
