Setting Out Engineer
Fawkes & Recce are partnering with a prestige client to recruit a permanent Setting Out Engineer for a reinforced concrete underground car park project in Bristol.
This role involves operating Leica GPS and Total Station equipment on site. While familiarity with Leica systems is preferred, training can be provided.
Key Responsibilities of the Setting Out Engineer
• Accurately setting out and levelling works in line with drawings and specifications
• Reviewing and coordinating Architect, Engineer, Services & Sub-Contractor drawings
• Carrying out pre- and post-concrete pour checks
• Acting as Temporary Works Coordinator when required
• Supervising and directing subcontractors, resolving technical issues as a Setting Out Engineer
• Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations and ISO standards
• Delivering inductions and toolbox talks to site teams
• Maintaining comprehensive records of setting out activities and site measurements
• Liaising with clients, local authorities, GA Project Teams, and subcontractors to support project coordination
• Supporting mentoring, training, and CPD development relevant to a Setting Out Engineer
Required Experience for a Setting Out Engineer
• 3+ years’ experience as a Site Engineer with a focus on setting out works
• 2+ years managing and coordinating subcontractors on large-scale projects
• Strong understanding of construction processes and setting out principles
• Proficient in AutoCAD and site survey software
• Experience conducting Health & Safety assessments relevant to setting out operations
• Familiarity with Leica GPS and Total Station systems
Qualifications
Essential:
• Degree / HND / HNC / BTEC in Civil / Construction Engineering or related discipline
• CSCS / CSR / Solas Safe Pass
Desirable:
• CIOB / ICE / OStructE accreditation
• SSSTS / SMSTS certification
• First Aid at Work certificate
Skills & Attributes
• Excellent organisational and troubleshooting skills specific to setting out and surveying
• Strong attention to detail in interpreting drawings and measurements
• Effective written and verbal communication for site coordination
• Team player with leadership capability in managing subcontractors
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant survey software
• Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, contractors, and project teams
