Multi Skilled Maintenance Technician
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician with an electrical bias to support the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical building services and systems at Tiverton & District Hospital.
The role involves planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, fault diagnosis, and ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual requirements. Whilst this is an electrical role, the successful candidate will be required to work across other building services trades where competent, such as AHU servicing and general mechanical support.
The role also includes contributing to emergency response and service continuity.
Key Responsibilities Perform electrical maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on systems including:
• Low voltage distribution systems and switchgear • Emergency lighting and general lighting systems
• Fire alarm systems and nurse call systems • Electrical components of HVAC and AHU systems • Backup generators and UPS systems • Building Management Systems (BMS) interfaces
• Portable appliance testing (PAT)
• Electrical containment and wiring installations • Isolation and reinstatement of electrical circuits for maintenance Conduct reactive repairs, including:
• Rapid response to electrical faults affecting patient care areas, clinical equipment, or critical infrastructure
• Diagnosing and resolving breakdowns in electrical systems to minimise downtime and disruption • Attending to emergency failures such as power outages, lighting faults, or alarm system failures
• Consulting with clinical teams to ensure safe access and minimal impact during repair works
• Escalating complex faults and coordinating with specialist contractors where necessary
• Ensuring all reactive tasks are logged, tracked, and closed out in accordance with contractual SLAs & KPIs Undertake Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), including:
• Completing scheduled inspections and servicing of electrical systems in accordance with statutory and manufacturer guidelines
• Testing and inspecting electrical installations in line with IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) • Monitoring system performance and identifying early signs of wear, overload, or failure
• Ensuring compliance with HTM standards and Trust-specific protocols
• Recording all PPM activities accurately in the maintenance management system and updating asset registers as required
• Supporting the development of PPM schedules and contributing to continuous improvement of maintenance strategies Compliance & Safety
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, including Risk Assessments and COSHH.
• Maintain accurate records for audit and statutory compliance.
• Use handheld devices or PC-based systems for job tracking, reporting, and documentation

• Support subcontractor management and monitor performance
• Ensure safe working practices and adherence to Health & Safety policies, including Risk Assessments and COSHH Teamwork & Communication
• Work collaboratively with Estates colleagues, clinical teams, and external contractors to ensure maintenance activities are coordinated and completed efficiently
. • Communicate clearly and professionally with hospital staff to minimise disruption and ensure safe access to work areas
. • Participate in team briefings, handovers, and service reviews to share updates and contribute to continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
• City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
• City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing or equivalent
• Apprenticeship trained in a relevant electrical discipline
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in building services or FM electrical maintenance
• Experience in healthcare or similar environments (desirable)
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification
• Authorised Person (Electrical) training (desirable)
• Strong fault diagnosis and repair skills
• IT literacy and familiarity with maintenance management systems
• Able to pass DBS/Disclosure checks
