Mechanical Project Engineer
Mechanical Project Engineer – Building Services Projects
London & South East | Permanent | Site & Project Based
£60,000 – £70,000 + package
If you are a Mechanical Project Engineer who prefers solving real delivery challenges rather than simply updating trackers, this role puts you where engineering decisions matter.
You will be supporting the delivery of complex building services projects across commercial office environments and mission-critical data centres. These are technically demanding schemes delivered within live environments where careful planning, coordination and technical understanding are essential to maintaining building operation while infrastructure is upgraded.
The position sits within a project delivery team reporting into a Project Manager or Contract Manager, supporting the coordination of mechanical works, subcontractors and project documentation from design review through installation, commissioning and final handover.
The Opportunity
You will be joining a contractor delivering mechanical and electrical infrastructure projects across London and the South East. Schemes typically involve complex plant replacement within occupied commercial buildings or infrastructure upgrades within live data centre facilities.
These environments demand careful sequencing, strong coordination between mechanical and electrical disciplines and the ability to deliver works safely without interrupting building operations.
Examples of projects you may be involved in
Commercial Office Infrastructure Upgrades
Delivering upgrades to landlord mechanical and electrical infrastructure within occupied commercial office buildings. Works typically include replacement or refurbishment of critical plant such as chillers, air handling units, pumps and associated pipework while the building remains operational.
Typical responsibilities may include:
* Supporting replacement or upgrade of major mechanical plant including chillers, pumps and air handling units
* Coordinating mechanical installations with electrical power supplies and plantroom infrastructure
* Managing pipework modifications and integration with existing building management systems
* Planning works within live environments while maintaining building operation
Data Centre Infrastructure Projects
Supporting the delivery of mechanical and electrical infrastructure upgrades within live data centre environments where resilience and uptime are critical.
Typical responsibilities may include:
* Coordinating installation of cooling infrastructure including CRAH units and chilled water systems
* Supporting upgrades to electrical infrastructure including switchgear, transformers and UPS systems
* Planning works to maintain mechanical and electrical redundancy during upgrades
* Assisting with commissioning and integrated systems testing
What you will be responsible for
Managing and coordinating mechanical works packages within active construction environments, ensuring installations are delivered safely, to programme and in line with technical and quality requirements. Reviewing design drawings, specifications and technical documentation to identify scope gaps, clarify installation requirements and ensure alignment between design intent and site delivery. Managing subcontractors and specialist suppliers involved in mechanical installations while supporting commissioning activities and ensuring systems are installed in accordance with project specifications. Maintaining accurate project documentation including RFIs, technical submittals, equipment registers, trackers and site records, while supporting project progress reporting and identifying site challenges early to coordinate practical solutions that maintain programme and technical delivery.
What you will need
* Experience working on mechanical or MEP projects within building services construction.
* Understanding of mechanical systems such as chilled water, HVAC plant and associated building services infrastructure.
* Experience coordinating subcontractors and supporting project delivery within construction environments.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
* Relevant construction or engineering qualification or demonstrable industry experience.
* Full UK driving licence
