Health & Safety Manager
ACR are currently recruiting for an experienced H&S Manager to join a very well respected residential developer based in Chelmsford.
Purpose of role
* To lead and manage health and safety compliance across all residential development projects and proactively oversee all H&S aspects across the group, ensuring adherence to UK legislation, company policies, and best practice standards. The role will focus on risk management, site audits, training, and fostering a strong safety culture throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee and proactively manage all health and safety aspects across the group, ensuring consistency and compliance across all sites and departments.
* Act as the point of contact for H&S matters, providing strategic guidance and operational support.
* Ensure all operations comply with UK Health & Safety legislation, CDM Regulations, and company standards.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and implement necessary updates to policies and procedures.
* Conduct risk assessments and method statement reviews for all projects.
* Identify hazards and implement effective and pragmatic control measures to reduce risk.
* Carry out regular site inspections and audits, producing detailed reports and action plans.
* Monitor subcontractor compliance and escalate non-conformance issues promptly.
* Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and incidents, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions.
* Liaise with HSE where necessary.
* Maintain accurate records and report findings to senior management.
* Support managers in promoting a positive health and safety culture.
* Produce monthly health and safety performance reports, including audit results, incident statistics, and improvement plans.
* Identify opportunities to enhance health and safety processes and implement best practices.
* Identify health and safety training needs across all operational teams and subcontractors.
* Develop, coordinate, and deliver training programs (e.g. toolbox talks, induction sessions).
* Monitor training effectiveness and maintain accurate training records.
* Champion initiatives that improve safety awareness and engagement across the business.
* Coordinate emergency response planning and ensure site teams are trained in relevant procedures.
* Assist with environmental and sustainability initiatives where they overlap with health and safety.
Skills & Experience
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate or Diploma (essential).
* Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
* Experience in residential construction or property development (essential).
* Excellent communication and influencing skills.
* Ability to manage multiple sites and priorities effectively.
* Able to independently travel to travel to multiple sites across the Southeast. A full UK drivers’ licence, desirable
