Freelance Planner – Civil Engineering / Infrastructure

Location: Peterborough

Rate: £350–£450 per day

Start Date: April 2026

Duration: Ongoing (initial contract to October 2026)

Red Sky Personnel is recruiting on behalf of a leading Tier 1 civil engineering contractor delivering long-term works across the Anglian Water framework. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Planner to join a well-established programme of infrastructure projects with secured workload and long-term visibility.

This contractor is known for its structured delivery model, strong client relationships and consistent pipeline across the utilities and infrastructure sectors.

The Role

As Planner, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of multiple projects across the framework, ensuring programmes are realistic, achievable and aligned with project objectives.

You’ll work closely with operational and commercial teams, providing planning support from project inception through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and update detailed project programmes using Primavera P6 and/or MSP

Work closely with Project Managers and site teams to ensure accurate sequencing and planning of works

Monitor progress against programme, identifying risks, delays and opportunities

Produce short-term and long-term programmes, including lookaheads

Support tender planning where required

Analyse programme performance and provide regular reporting to stakeholders

Liaise with commercial teams to align programme with cost and resource planning

Contribute to planning strategy across multiple live projects within the framework

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience as a Planner within civil engineering or infrastructure projects

Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project (MSP)

Good understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and project delivery

Experience working within utilities or water frameworks (highly desirable)

Ability to manage multiple programmes and priorities simultaneously

Strong communication skills with the ability to engage site and senior stakeholders
