Head of Environmental Services – Based in West Essex

Salary: £80,000-£85,000 + 10% Bonus
Reports to: Director
We are recruiting a senior Head of Environmental Services, permanently based in West Essex – a strategic role overseeing a wide portfolio of environmental and operational services across the region.

About the Role

This leadership position holds full responsibility for the strategic and operational delivery of:

Waste Management & Transfer Station operations
Facilities Management
Pest Control Services
Fleet & Transport Operations
Site Operations
Health & Safety Compliance
You will lead multi‑disciplinary teams, drive service improvement, ensure full regulatory compliance, and support commercial growth. The role also involves close collaboration with clients, senior leadership, and external partners, and deputising for the Director when required.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee delivery of all Environmental Services operations to a high standard.
Ensure health, safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across all services.
Lead on tenders, commercial strategy, contract performance and business cases.
Manage procurement, subcontractor performance, and operational frameworks.
Develop teams through effective leadership, coaching, and performance management.
Support continuous improvement, resident satisfaction, and service development.
Provide high‑quality reporting, inspections, and strategic recommendations.

About You

Essential:

Strong operational leadership background across multi‑service environments.
Solid understanding of H&S legislation and compliance requirements.
Experience in contract management, tendering, and commercial analysis.
Skilled in producing technical reports, feasibility studies, and service documentation.
Full valid driving licence.
Desirable:

NEBOSH, WAMITAB, CIWM or similar qualification.
Experience with fleet or environmental systems.
Strong presentation, communication, and staff‑development capabilities
