Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer – Bristol Area

My client is seeking a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join their well-established consultancy based in North Bristol. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering innovative, sustainable, and energy-efficient mechanical design solutions across a diverse range of projects throughout the UK.

Location: North Bristol
Salary: £40,000 – £55,000 (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time, permanent | 37.5 hours per week | Hybrid & flexible working

Day-to-Day

Your typical day may include:

Developing detailed mechanical designs and specifications for building services projects.
Attending design meetings with clients, architects, and contractors to discuss project requirements.
Conducting site visits to oversee installation and commissioning activities.
Reviewing and approving technical drawings and calculations.
Supporting junior engineers with technical queries and professional development.
Managing project schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:

Lead the mechanical design process across all RIBA stages, ensuring high-quality and sustainable solutions.
Deliver energy-efficient designs for both new build and refurbishment projects across multiple sectors.
Collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.
Oversee installation, commissioning, and site activities to ensure successful project delivery.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth.
Manage project delivery, including budgets, timelines, and client communication.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should have:

Proven experience in delivering UK building services projects.
A strong understanding of RIBA stages and the ability to lead projects through all phases.
A solid background in mechanical design for both new build and refurbishment projects.
Confidence in client-facing roles and project leadership responsibilities.
Proficiency in tools such as Revit/BIM, IESVE, and AutoCAD (beneficial but not essential).
A relevant degree, HND, or HNC in Mechanical Engineering (CIBSE membership or working towards it is ideal).
