Site Manager
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to oversee the delivery of heavy civils projects across a range of Canal & River Trust schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and hands-on professional with a strong background in infrastructure, waterways, and complex civil engineering environments.
You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
– Manage day-to-day site operations on heavy civils projects, including structures, earthworks, and water-related infrastructure
– Oversee works on Canal & River Trust schemes, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements
– Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams
– Ensure all health, safety, and environmental standards are met and maintained
– Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks
– Monitor progress against programme and report to senior management
– Maintain accurate site records, including RAMS, permits, and site diaries
– Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities
Requirements
– Proven experience as a Site Manager on heavy civils projects
– Previous involvement in Canal & River Trust or similar waterways/infrastructure schemes is highly desirable
– Strong understanding of civil engineering methods, particularly within water environments
– SMSTS (essential)
– CSCS (Black/Gold Card preferred)
– First Aid at Work
– Temporary Works Coordinator/Supervisor (Essential)
– Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
