Highway Fieldwork / Groundwork Technician
We’re currently recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist in hand-applied micro asphalt surfacing, known for delivering high-quality, durable solutions across the UK’s road and footway network.
Position: Highway Fieldwork / Groundwork Technician
We are looking to recruit a couple of individuals to support our preparation works ahead of our laying crews. Ideally, candidates will be based in or near Malpas, Cheshire . However, the role will involve working across multiple contracts throughout the North. A willingness to travel and occasionally stay away is essential, so this role would suit someone who enjoys working in different locations.
This is a hands-on, outdoor role involving a wide range of highway and groundwork activities, playing a key part in ensuring sites are ready for surfacing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Surface preparation including blowing, cleaning, jet washing, and mechanical scraping
* Vegetation clearance and cutting back undergrowth
* Hand excavations and lifting ironwork
* General labouring duties such as:
*
* Footway repairs
* Breaking out hard surfaces
* Reinstatement of tarmac, grass, and landscaped areas
* Assisting with mobilisation of equipment to sites (including restricted access locations)
* Supporting light monitoring activities and sample collection
* Maintaining clean and organised work/storage areas
What We’re Looking For:
* Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors year-round
* Reliable, self-motivated, and willing to learn
* Strong practical skills with a team-oriented approach
* Good communication skills
* Ability to work independently when required
* Full, clean UK driving licence (LGV entitlement is advantageous)
* Ability to maintain accurate records and reports
Experience:
Previous fieldwork or tarmacing experience is beneficial but not essential—full training will be provided.
