The Opportunity
We are working with a leading UK construction and infrastructure business with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality civil engineering, highways, and rail-adjacent projects across the country. Known for their collaborative approach and commitment to excellence, they are now seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to act as the client’s on-site representative for a key project in Portishead.
This is a part-time assignment, ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives on ensuring quality, compliance, and best practice across construction delivery.
The Role
As Clerk of Works, you will play a critical role in safeguarding quality across construction, groundworks, and landscape activities. Acting independently, you will ensure all works meet required specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct regular site inspections, benchmarking works against drawings and specifications
* Measure and sample materials to verify compliance and quality standards
* Identify defects and provide clear recommendations for corrective actions
* Liaise with contractors, engineers, surveyors, and the wider project team
* Monitor progress and produce detailed reports for client and stakeholders
* Undertake post-construction inspections and monitor rectification works
About You
* Proven experience in a Clerk of Works, Site Engineer, or Construction Quality role
* Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering, including groundworks, drainage, concrete, and landscaping
* Solid understanding of the National Highways Specification
* Ability to remain impartial, acting in the best interest of the client
* Excellent attention to detail and strong report writing skills
* Effective communicator with the ability to engage across multidisciplinary teams
Desirable:
* Experience working on rail or rail-adjacent infrastructure projects
