Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: St Albans

Salary: £70,000 per annum + Car Allowance / Car

Type: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week)

The Opportunity

Are you a commercially sharp Senior Quantity Surveyor with a background in planned maintenance? We are looking for a strategic leader to join our St Albans team to oversee commercial delivery for our Planned Works and Building Fire Safety contracts.

You will take full ownership of multiple projects from award to final account. This is a pivotal role where you will not only drive profitability and productivity but also lead and develop a small team of commercial professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Management: Lead all commercial matters for planned projects, including specialized Building Fire Safety schemes.

Financial Reporting: Take charge of CVR reporting, forecasting, profit/loss analysis, and cash flow management to ensure budgets are met or exceeded.

Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small commercial team, driving a culture of high performance and professional development.

Procurement & Supply Chain: Work with the Procurement Team to ensure cost-effective sub-trade appointment and manage the end-to-end subcontract account process (including re-measurement and variations).

Valuations & Claims: Ensure timely submission of valuations, invoicing, and the agreement of final accounts, including extensions of time and loss/expense claims.

Risk & Strategy: Develop and execute commercial strategies that maximize value recovery and mitigate project risks.

About You

You are an experienced SQS who thrives in a fast-paced maintenance environment. You understand that success in planned works comes from meticulous measurement, strong leadership, and the ability to spot commercial opportunities.

Essential Requirements:

Industry Experience: Proven track record as a Senior QS within Planned Maintenance. Experience in Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) or fire safety works is highly desirable.

Technical Skills: Expert knowledge of CVRs, budget management, forecasting, and final accounts.

Leadership: Experience managing and developing a small team.

Qualifications: NVQ Level 4 in Construction or Management.

Compliance: Valid CSCS Card (Black or White).
