Salary – £60,000 – £70,000 Per Annum + Benefits
About the Role
A leading engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of multiple projects from contract award through to final account. This is a pivotal role responsible for safeguarding financial performance, driving cost awareness, and ensuring the successful commercial delivery of projects.
The ideal candidate will bring strong commercial acumen, confidence in managing project finances, and the ability to work autonomously while supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
• Take full commercial ownership of projects from tender handover to final account
• Manage project budgets and promote cost awareness across operational teams
• Produce cashflow forecasts and sales projections
• Prepare and manage monthly applications for payment and certification
• Deliver accurate cost/value reconciliations and reports
• Procure and negotiate subcontract packages and prepare subcontract documentation
• Assess, certify, and issue subcontract payments as required
• Attend internal and external meetings with stakeholders
• Promote safe working practices within the commercial function
• Mentor junior commercial staff and support project delivery teams
• Collaborate with internal departments and undertake additional duties as needed
Candidate Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
• Strong IT skills — proficient in Excel and Word
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities
• Proven commercial acumen with experience preparing detailed cost reports and forecasts
• Strong negotiation skills
• Proficient in NEC3/NEC4 contract administration
• Experience within the water or MEICA engineering sector (preferred, not essential)
Experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar Quantity Surveying role
Qualifications
• Degree qualified in a relevant subject
Additional Information
• Some travel and attendance at external meetings will be required
• Occasional work outside normal hours may be necessary
• Full UK driving licence required
