Role Summary:
Planning Manager is required to lead and oversee the planning function for a major civil engineering and infrastructure programme. The role involves managing planners, directing programme development and updates, ensuring efficient sequencing of works, and providing senior‑level planning input to support cost, quality and regulatory compliance. You will act as the key planning interface between the project leadership team, client, subcontractors and wider stakeholders, ensuring full control of programme governance and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning Leadership & Oversight
* Lead and manage the planning function, providing direction, mentoring and quality control across all planning outputs.
* Ensure consistent application of planning standards, methodologies and programme controls across the project portfolio.
* Review, challenge and approve schedules prepared by planning team members.
* Oversee Portfolio Development & Controls ensuring all infrastructure plans align with client priorities, regulatory requirements and project scopes.
Commercial & Contractual Integration
* Provide planning input into commercial reports, risk assessments and change notifications.
* Ensure compliance with NEC and other standard contract requirements relating to programme submission, progress, compensation events and reporting.
Reporting, Governance & Continuous Improvement
* Prepare and present planning reports, proposals and schedule updates for senior management and stakeholders.
* Monitor project progress, performance and environmental considerations, implementing corrective measures where required.
* Contribute to wider project strategies and support the development of GIS mapping and planning databases.
* Drive continuous improvement across all planning processes and stakeholder engagement.
* Collaborate with public bodies, environmental authorities, utilities, consultants and contractors to ensure regulatory and technical alignment.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
* Significant planning experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects.
* Proven track record leading planning functions on complex, multidisciplinary schemes.
* Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, with strong capability in developing and managing detailed programmes.
* Strong understanding of project management, critical path analysis, risk identification and project controls.
* Experience preparing planning reports, submissions and progress documentation for senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
* Familiarity with NEC contracts and associated planning, change management and reporting requirements.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, utilities, government authorities and subcontractors.
