Senior Project Manager – Complex Construction Projects
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join a £multi‑billion transformation programme in Essex. This role is ideally suited to professionals who have successfully delivered complex construction projects within live operational environments, with project values in the region of £100 million.
You will play a pivotal role in steering the programme through its delivery phase-from advanced enabling works through to construction and fit-out-ensuring seamless integration with wider programme objectives and live airport operations. The programme is being deliver
ed under the NEC form of contract, requiring strong commercial, delivery, and stakeholder management expertise.
This opportunity is perfect for candidates with experience in major rail station upgrades, airport projects, large regeneration schemes, or stadium developments.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day delivery activities, ensuring alignment with programme objectives and milestones.
Coordinate and manage contractors and delivery partners under NEC contracts, ensuring compliance with scope, quality, safety, and commercial requirements.
Track progress, anticipate risks and issues, and drive the implementation of mitigation and recovery plans.
Support robust commercial management, including change control and contract administration.
Work collaboratively with operations teams to ensure construction works are delivered safely within a live operational environment.
Maintain proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring consistent reporting and programme alignment.
Lead site-based coordination, inspections, and workshops, maintaining a strong on-site presence (minimum three days per week).
About You
We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with:
Proven experience delivering major construction or infrastructure projects-ideally in live operational settings such as airports, rail, or stadiums.
Experience working on complex, £100m+ projects.
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with NEC contract management.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple contractors and delivery workstreams.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across commercial, engineering, and operational functions.
A proactive, delivery-focused approach, capable of operating within a fast-paced, highly complex environment.
Experience managing enabling works and understanding interfaces relating to operations, logistics, and safety.
