Senior Quantity Surveyor

A growing Special Projects Division is looking to strengthen its commercial team with a high-calibre Senior Quantity Surveyor based out of Durham. This is an excellent opportunity to join a financially secure business delivering complex projects in live and challenging environments.

This opportunity sits within a well-established UK construction group with a turnover in excess of £1bn, delivering projects across sectors including commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and public sector frameworks.
The role is part of a dedicated Special Projects Division focused on fast-paced, technically complex schemes typically ranging from £10m to £30m. Projects are a mix of new build and high-quality fit-out/refurbishment, often within live or operational environments.
The division operates with a lean, agile structure, offering greater autonomy, faster decision-making, and closer collaboration between commercial and operational teams-while still benefiting from the financial strength, systems, and reputation of a major contractor.
With a strong pipeline of secured work across distribution, defence, and education sectors, the business continues to invest in its people as it grows.
The Opportunity
You will take a lead commercial role on projects typically ranging from £10m – £30m, across:
Distribution and logistics centres
MOD projects
Education schemesProjects are delivered as a mix of new build and fit-out/refurbishment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account
Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation, and package control
Produce cost reports, CVRs, and forecasts
Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
Work closely with project and site teams to drive performance
Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain
Support and mentor junior commercial staff where required
About You
Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or an experienced Project QS ready to step up
Background within a main contractor environment
Experience delivering projects valued at £10m+
Exposure to sectors such as industrial, defence, or education is advantageous
Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage projects independently
Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills
Salary & Package
£75,000 – £80,000 basic salary
