Our client is looking to recruit an experienced and commercially focused Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of high-profile, complex infrastructure and capital projects in Barrow-in-Furness.

This role offers the chance to take full ownership of commercial management within a long-term, nationally significant programme and play a pivotal role in ensuring projects are delivered on budget, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will lead the commercial and contractual management of projects, providing expert guidance across cost planning, contract administration, and financial reporting. You will be responsible for driving value for money, managing commercial risks, and ensuring compliance with governance processes and client standards.

Working closely with Project Managers, engineers, and the wider project team, you will act as the primary commercial advisor, overseeing budgets, procurement, and contract administration while ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders. This role requires a proactive, highly organised professional with strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the preparation, review, and maintenance of project cost plans, forecasts, and budgets
Monitor project expenditure, identifying variances and implementing corrective measures
Administer contracts (NEC or similar), including contract drafting, change management, and final accounts
Manage subcontractor procurement processes, from tendering and evaluation to award and performance monitoring
Assess and process applications for payment, variations, and claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities, escalating issues as necessary
Provide regular, clear, and accurate commercial reporting to senior management and client teams
Support dispute resolution, contract negotiations, and claims management where required
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment between commercial and project delivery objectives
Promote and implement commercial best practice and continuous improvement initiativesAbout You

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction, infrastructure, or engineering projects, preferably in the defence sector
Strong working knowledge of standard contract forms such as NEC, JCT, or similar
Experience managing budgets, cost control, and procurement on complex, high-value projects
Excellent commercial awareness, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Strong negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities
Ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams and influence at all levels
Proficient in Microsoft Office, cost management software, and project reporting tools
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)What's on Offer
