Senior Quantity Surveyor
Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC Option C expertise to support the delivery of major infrastructure projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key commercial role on complex, technically challenging schemes, with a particular focus on tunnelling works.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of the commercial and contractual management of projects operating under NEC Option C (Target Cost) contracts. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and the supply chain to ensure robust cost control, proactive risk management, and successful commercial outcomes.
Given the nature of the projects, experience within tunnelling or underground works will be highly advantageous, enabling you to confidently manage the complexities and risks associated with these environments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead commercial management across projects delivered under NEC Option C contracts
Develop and manage target costs, pain/gain mechanisms, and cost forecasting
Administer contracts in line with NEC processes, including early warnings, compensation events, and change control
Provide detailed cost reporting, including forecasts, earned value analysis, and variance reporting
Manage subcontractor procurement, negotiation, and performance
Assess and agree applications for payment, variations, and final accounts
Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, particularly within complex engineering environments
Work closely with project delivery teams to drive value and cost efficiency
Support dispute avoidance and resolution through proactive contract management
Ensure compliance with governance procedures and commercial best practice
About You
Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within major infrastructure or engineering projects
Strong, demonstrable experience working with NEC contracts, particularly Option C (Target Cost)
Experience within tunnelling, underground works, or similarly complex civil engineering environments is highly desirable
Excellent understanding of cost management, forecasting, and commercial controls
Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, technically complex project environment
Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial/project management tools
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
MRICS or working towards professional accreditation is desirable
