Senior Quantity Surveyor
Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team, supporting the delivery of major infrastructure and capital projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading commercial role within a dynamic consultancy environment, working on high-value, complex programmes across sectors such as transport, utilities, energy, and defence.
The Role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial and contractual aspects of projects from inception through to final account. You will act as a key advisor to clients and project teams, ensuring robust cost management, effective procurement, and strong commercial governance throughout the project lifecycle.
You will work closely with Project Managers, engineers, and stakeholders, providing expert insight and leadership to drive value, manage risk, and deliver successful project outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple projects or take ownership of key workstreams within large-scale programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the commercial management of projects, ensuring delivery within approved budgets and commercial frameworks
Prepare, develop, and maintain detailed cost plans, estimates, and project budgets
Monitor and report on project costs, including forecasting, cash flow analysis, and variance reporting
Administer contracts (NEC, JCT, or similar), ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and processes
Manage change control processes, including variations, compensation events, and claims
Lead procurement activities, including preparation of tender documentation, evaluation, and contract award
Manage and oversee subcontractor performance, payments, and final accounts
Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities
Provide accurate and timely reporting to clients and senior stakeholders
Support dispute avoidance and resolution through proactive commercial management
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the development of best practice
About You
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within infrastructure, construction, or engineering sectors
Strong knowledge of contract forms such as NEC, JCT, or equivalent
Demonstrable experience in cost management, procurement, and contract administration on complex projects
Excellent commercial acumen and analytical skills
Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities
Ability to lead and mentor junior team members where required
Proficient in Microsoft Office and cost management/project tools
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
MRICS accreditation (or working towards) is highly desirable
