Health & Safety Advisor
Overview
O'Neill & Brennan are currently seeking a Health & Safety Advisor on behalf of our client to support projects across Cheshire. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a professional, collaborative, and knowledge-sharing culture across multiple sites.
This position focuses on ensuring best-in-class health, safety, and environmental standards are effectively planned, implemented, and continuously improved. The Health & Safety Advisor will be a proactive and valued member of project teams, providing practical support and guidance to enhance overall site performance.
Responsibilities
Key Duties:
– Lead by example in promoting a positive health and safety culture
– Provide clear, practical, and industry-leading advice to project stakeholders
– Conduct regular site audits and inspections in line with guidance from the HSE Manager
– Attend site following incidents or accidents and support investigations, taking the lead where required
– Liaise with regulatory and enforcement bodies during site visits or investigations
– Support the preparation of periodic Health & Safety reports for senior leadership
– Escalate any concerns regarding gaps in health and safety coverage
– Assist with tender and prequalification submissions, offering health and safety input and practical solutions
– Attend project start-up meetings and other site meetings as required
– Deliver relevant health and safety training to site teams
– Stay up to date with legislative changes and industry best practices
– Maintain awareness of personal competency limits and seek guidance when necessary
Qualifications & Experience
– NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
– NVQ Level 4 (or EQF Level 3) in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent
– Internal Auditor qualification
– Training in incident/accident investigation
– Knowledge of CDM regulations and associated duty holder responsibilities
– Awareness of lifting operations (e.g. BS7121 or equivalent standards)
– Understanding of temporary works, including the role of the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC)
– Training in temporary works supervision
– Ongoing professional development in areas such as occupational health, environmental management, or behavioural safety
