PMO Lead

We are supporting a major UK energy organisation in their search for an experienced PMO Lead to build, shape, and embed a brand‑new Programme Management Office function.

This is a rare opportunity to join at the very beginning of a multi‑year transformation programme, giving you the autonomy to design processes, implement structure, and influence the long-term direction of project delivery across the business.

If you have strong experience in PMO leadership, project controls, governance, and programme‑level planning, this role offers high impact and excellent visibility.

The Role

As PMO Lead, you will be responsible for establishing and maturing the PMO from the ground up. You will work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure all projects follow consistent governance, reporting, and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Designing and implementing PMO frameworks, processes, and governance structures
Establishing project controls, reporting dashboards, and performance metrics
Supporting senior leadership with programme planning, risk management, and portfolio prioritisation
Developing standardised documentation, templates, and best‑practice guides
Overseeing scheduling, cost tracking, risk, and change control
Introducing tools, systems, and processes to support efficient delivery
Building and mentoring a growing PMO team as the function expands
Acting as a strategic partner to Programme Directors and Heads of Function

What We're Looking For

We're interested in speaking with candidates who have experience setting up or significantly developing PMO functions within complex, project‑driven industries such as energy, utilities, infrastructure, engineering, manufacturing or defence.

Essential Skills & Experience:

Significant experience in PMO leadership roles
Strong understanding of governance, reporting, project controls, and assurance
Ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate clearly at all levels
Experience designing PMO processes from scratch
A mix of strategic thinking and hands‑on implementation capability Desirable:

Experience in energy, utilities, or regulated infrastructure
Background in Planning, Project Controls, or Project Management
Familiarity with PMO tools and digital reporting platforms Why This Role?
