About the Role
A Leading Contractor is seeking an experienced Site Manager for a long-term project based in Bedford. The Site Manager will be responsible for overseeing the external main works, including yard slabs, ensuring all activities are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. The role includes managing civils works with the support of a Senior Engineer and Supervisor.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organise and manage all site operations related to civils, external works, and slabs package.
Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies at all times.
Maintain close liaison with the Senior Engineer and Supervisor to coordinate workflow and resources effectively.
Monitor progress against programme milestones, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions promptly.
Manage subcontractors and directly engaged operatives to deliver quality workmanship within budget and timescales.
Prepare and submit regular progress reports, site diaries, and documentation as required.
Ensure materials and plant are available as planned and utilised efficiently.
Conduct site inspections to ensure work complies with design and specification requirements.
Promote a strong culture of safety, quality and environmental awareness on site.
Required Qualifications
SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certificate.
Valid CSCS card – either Black or White.
First Aid at Work certification.
Full, clean driving licence.
Education and Experience
Previous site management experience within civils and external works, preferably including slabs package.
Proven track record of managing medium to large scale construction projects.
Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team and coordinating with engineers and supervisors.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong understanding of construction processes, techniques, and best practises within civils and external works.
Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for liaising with clients, subcontractors and site teams.
Competent in risk assessment and site safety management.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Proficient in preparing site reports and documentation.
Working Conditions
Full-time contract role based on site in Bedfordshire.
Work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Regular site attendance with occasional requirement for extended hours to meet project deadlines.
Use of personal protective equipment at all times on site.
Travel to and from site as required, with access to suitable transport essential
