Regional Commercial Manager
bout the Role
We are working on behalf of a leading construction and development business to recruit an experienced Regional Commercial Manager. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all pre- and post-contract commercial activities across a regional portfolio of projects. You will play a key role in driving commercial performance, shaping business strategy, and ensuring robust financial and contractual control across the region.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for maximising and converting commercial opportunities while building and maintaining long-term, effective relationships with clients and supply chain partners. You will contribute to both regional and project-level business strategy, ensuring strict adherence to internal commercial governance and procedures at all times. A key part of the role will involve producing accurate and timely monthly commercial reports, as well as supporting the development and implementation of commercial policies and procedures.
As a core member of the regional leadership team, you will lead and contribute to tender appraisals, bid strategies, and adjudications, ensuring that all contractual arrangements align with internal standards and optimise commercial outcomes. You will oversee the post-contract commercial management of projects and manage procurement processes, ensuring robust subcontract packages and effective risk management. This includes maintaining efficient purchase ledger processes through accurate ordering, strong materials data control, and prompt resolution of queries.
You will be expected to identify and mitigate commercial risks, including cost control and dispute avoidance, while ensuring full compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental, IT, and HR policies. You will also support and deliver training in line with company procedures.
The role involves providing expert commercial and contractual advice to senior leadership, as well as supporting the recruitment, development, and retention of high-performing commercial teams. You will ensure the integrity of regional financial performance, delivering accurate forecasting and timely reporting to senior stakeholders, while promoting best practice across estimating, surveying, procurement, and planning functions.
From a people management perspective, you will lead, manage, and develop regional commercial teams, carrying out performance and development reviews, managing attendance, and addressing performance or training needs as they arise. You will ensure compliance with employment legislation and HR policies, maintain regular communication through team meetings and one-to-ones, and support ongoing professional development and career progression.
Key Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have strong experience in a senior commercial role within construction or housing development, with a proven ability to manage commercial activities across multiple projects or regions. You will possess excellent knowledge of contracts, commercial strategy, and risk management, along with experience in claims management and dispute resolution. Strong financial reporting and forecasting skills are essential, as is the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.
You will have experience leading, mentoring, and developing teams, and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with COINS or similar systems would be advantageous.
