The Role As a Technical Designer, you will play a key role in the technical delivery of complex commercial interior projects for a range of high-profile clients. Working across multiple live environments, you will be responsible for producing and coordinating detailed technical design information to support efficient and accurate project execution.
This position requires an experienced technical professional capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, balancing design intent with practical, regulatory, and programme requirements. You will work closely with internal teams, external consultants, contractors, and client stakeholders to ensure all design outputs are coordinated, compliant, and deliverable.
Key Responsibilities
Design Coordination: Lead the technical design coordination process, facilitating collaboration between design, technical, and construction teams. Organise and document coordination workshops as required.
Technical Documentation: Independently develop detailed 3D models and comprehensive technical drawing packages, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and client requirements.
Technical Design Management: Oversee the technical design process from inception to completion, ensuring accuracy, feasibility, and cost efficiency. This includes producing and managing full technical documentation and undertaking site surveys to inform design development. Familiarity with BIM processes is advantageous.
Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a central point of contact for specialist subcontractors, engineers, and commercial teams, proactively resolving technical issues to maintain project progress.
Quality Assurance & Compliance: Conduct site visits to monitor installation quality, address technical challenges, and ensure adherence to specifications and regulatory requirements. Coordinate with building control and external consultants to maintain compliance. Skills & Experience
Education: Relevant qualification in architecture, design, or a related discipline (e.g. Part 2 Architectural Assistant, Architect, or equivalent experience).
Experience: Demonstrable experience in commercial fit-out projects, including a minimum of two years’ site-based experience. Strong understanding of technical design stages (RIBA Stages 3–6) and construction documentation is essential.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Revit (2D and 3D), with working knowledge of AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite.
Technical Knowledge: Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, buildable technical drawings.
Regulatory Understanding: Knowledge of relevant building regulations, codes, and safety standards, with experience managing compliance processes.
Communication Skills: Confident in client-facing situations with clear and professional communication and presentation abilities.
Project Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
Commercial Awareness: Good understanding of commercial considerations within project delivery. Desirable Attributes
