We’re working on behalf of a well‑established, UK‑based specialist contractor to recruit Project Directors for a number of major, technically complex projects across the UK.
This contractor operates within highly regulated and challenging environments and has a strong reputation for delivering complex engineering and construction schemes safely, profitably and to a very high standard. Due to continued project awards and growth, they’re now strengthening their senior leadership team.
The Role
As Project Director, you’ll take full responsibility for the successful delivery of major projects, leading multidisciplinary teams and ensuring performance across safety, quality, programme, commercial outcomes and people leadership.
This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role, suited to individuals who enjoy technical challenge, client interaction and building strong, high‑performing project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Take overall responsibility for the delivery of allocated projects from pre‑construction through to completion
Lead and support Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and Construction Managers
Provide strong engineering and construction leadership, ensuring buildability, temporary works and methodologies are robust
Maintain effective planning, reporting and control processes
Build and manage strong client and stakeholder relationships
Support tender and pre‑construction activities, contributing to methodology, planning and resourcing
Represent the business at client meetings, interviews and key presentations
Work closely with commercial teams to manage cost, risk, forecasting and contract administration
Ensure governance, compliance and documentation standards are maintained
Recruit, mentor and develop senior project teams, supporting succession planning
Drive continuous improvement, innovation and best practice across projects
About You
Proven experience operating at Project Director (or Senior Project Leadership) level on complex construction or engineering projects
Strong background managing large, multidisciplinary teams
Excellent understanding of modern construction methods, temporary works and safety legislation
Strong commercial awareness, including cost control and financial performance
Confident communicator, able to engage credibly with senior clients and stakeholders
Calm, decisive and solutions‑focused under pressure
Strong people leader with experience developing and retaining high‑performing teams
Valid CSCS card required; professional membership desirable
