Welfare Division Supervisor
Location: Depot‑based, North East
Hours: 45 hours per week
Salary: £33,251.40 per annum
Licence: Category B (up to 3.5 tonne) essential
Jackson Hogg is supporting a well‑established depot operation in the North East with the appointment of a Welfare Division Supervisor. This role has been created to strengthen day‑to‑day operational control across a busy welfare servicing operation, ensuring equipment availability, service standards, safety and commercial performance are consistently met.
This is a hands‑on supervisory position, suited to someone with experience leading drivers and frontline operatives in a fleet‑based service environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Depot Manager or Welfare Manager, you will oversee the welfare service team and ensure units are serviced, maintained and available to meet hire and breakdown requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
* Supervising welfare service drivers, allocating work fairly and efficiently to meet servicing schedules, breakdowns and hire demand
* Managing customer breakdown calls, maintaining daily breakdown logs, monitoring response times and reporting performance
* Ensuring adequate staffing levels at all times, accounting for holidays, sickness and operational peaks
* Inspecting welfare units returned from hire, recording damage (including graffiti) and escalating chargeable items for authorisation
* Ensuring customers are correctly charged for repairs, interim servicing, out‑of‑hours call‑outs, lost locks, keys and additional services
* Ensuring service books, waste transfer notes and all delivery, collection and exchange paperwork are completed accurately and processed correctly
* Making sure drivers complete daily vehicle checks, reporting defects and coordinating repairs and servicing with logistics support
* Processing parts requisitions correctly and raising purchase requisitions where required, following up to minimise downtime
* Monitoring stock levels, carrying out regular stock checks and ensuring correct storage of parts, consumables and equipment
* Coordinating the dispatch and receipt of goods to customers, suppliers and other depots, ensuring safe loading and unloading practices
* Handling customer enquiries for parts, spares and repairs professionally, ensuring commercial pricing and credit compliance
* Maintaining product knowledge through training and development activities
* Testing new welfare units prior to entry into fleet and ensuring all PDI and transfer documentation is completed accurately
* Maintaining a safe, secure, tidy depot and yard environment at all times
* Supporting other operational areas when required to ensure service standards are maintained
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Ensuring all staff comply with company procedures, particularly Health & Safety and PPE requirements
* Delivering or organising toolbox talks and training where required
* Ensuring all work is carried out safely, minimising risk to staff, customers and the public
* Reporting accidents, incidents and vehicle defects through the correct systems
About You
This role will suit someone who:
* Has supervisory experience within a welfare, hire, utilities, logistics or fleet‑based service environment
* Is confident managing drivers and operational staff
* Understands the importance of compliance, documentation and cost control
* Is organised, commercially aware and comfortable dealing with customers
* Holds a full Category B driving licence (up to 3.5 tonne)
* Holds a forklift licence (desirable but not essential)
