Engineering Manager
A growing residential developer is seeking a Civils-focused Engineering Manager to support the technical delivery of new-build housing schemes across the region. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager or a Senior Engineer/Technical Coordinator ready to step up into a more influential role.
The business has a strong land bank and ambitious plans for further growth, delivering a mix of 2–4-bedroom houses, townhouses, and low-rise apartments — including a significant proportion of affordable housing in partnership with local authorities and housing associations. Their developments prioritise modern, energy-efficient design, incorporating technologies such as air source heat pumps, solar PV, and high-performance building fabric.
The Role
This is a hands-on, civils-led engineering role focused on de-risking sites from the ground up. You will be involved from site identification and feasibility through to technical approval and site start, ensuring that all engineering constraints are understood, costed, and resolved.
This is not a design role — instead, you will manage, coordinate, and challenge external designers, ensuring solutions are robust, buildable, and commercially viable.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead engineering input from early land feasibility through to construction start
* Identify and de-risk engineering constraints across multiple residential sites
* Review and challenge external consultant designs relating to:
* Substructures and foundations
* Roads and highways
* Drainage strategies and SUDS
* Statutory authority requirements (S38, S104, S278, utilities)
* Ground conditions, remediation strategies, and abnormal cost risks
* Coordinate technical due diligence for new land opportunities
* Work closely with land, planning, commercial, and construction teams to ensure engineering solutions align with programme, cost, and quality expectations
* Oversee technical approvals with local authorities, water companies, and statutory bodies
* Support the delivery of sustainable, low‑carbon infrastructure solutions
* Provide engineering support during construction to resolve issues quickly and effectively
Essential Experience
* Civil engineering background (housebuilding, residential development, or civils consultancy)
* Strong understanding of ground conditions, remediation, drainage, utilities, and infrastructure design
* Ability to review, critique, and challenge consultant designs
* Experience working with statutory authorities and navigating technical approvals
* Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-focused mindset
What is on Offer
* Competitive salary and package
* Opportunity to step into a more senior, influential role
* A growing developer with a long-term pipeline and strong land position
* Varied projects across houses, townhouses, and low-rise apartments
* A supportive, collaborative environment where engineering input is valued from day one
