Solar PV Designer

Job Description:

Our client is a well-established renewable energy installer founded in 2011, covering solar PV, battery storage, heat pumps, EV charging and more across the South of England. They're fully accredited, Tesla Powerwall Premium installers, and their current hiring activity suggests the business is actively growing.

Role Overview:

You will play a key role in designing efficient and compliant solar PV systems for residential and commercial clients, preparing proposals and completing DNO applications. Working closely with the sales, engineering and installation teams, you'll take ownership of projects from initial design through to delivery.

* Design solar PV systems for residential and commercial projects

* Produce panel layouts, string designs, and system schematics

* Conduct shading analysis, energy yield calculations, and system sizing

* Ensure compliance with industry standards (MCS, G98/G99, DNO requirements)

* Review site surveys and satellite imagery to optimise system design

* Work closely with sales, engineering, and installation teams

Essential Skills Required:

* 1–2 years' experience designing solar PV systems (domestic or commercial)

* Proficiency with solar design software such as PVSol, OpenSolar or similar

* Good understanding of electrical principles and solar PV systems

* Knowledge of inverter systems (SolarEdge, Enphase etc.)

* Understanding of UK solar regulations and grid connection processes

* Experience with AutoCAD or similar design tools (preferred)

* Experience with battery storage or hybrid systems (desirable)

* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects
