Essex
Multi-Disciplinary Contractor
Outline of Opportunity We are looking for a commercially astute Contract Manager to take the reins of a newly won, high-profile, flagship contract carrying out extensive Passive Fire Protection works. This isn't a role for someone looking to "steady the ship"-it's for a leader who wants to drive it.
The contract is secure and performing well, but we need a specialist who can identify the "marginal gains," unlock hidden commercial value, and treat this £4m per annum account as if it were their own business.
You will be responsible for ensuring life safety compliance across a diverse portfolio, turning technical requirements into operational excellence.
This is a "make your mark" position. You are inheriting a stable foundation with the total autonomy to optimize, innovate, and lead a flagship passive fire account within a market-leading organization.
The Role
As a Passive Fire Contract Manager, you will have full operational and commercial responsibility for the performance and profitability of the contract.
You will oversee the delivery of works relating to:
Fire Mooring & Fire Stopping
Fire Door Through-Examinations & Remediation (BM TRADA / Q-Mark standards)
Fire Rated Partitioning & Ceilings
Intumescent Coatings & Structural Protection
Cavity Barrier Installations
Surveying & Compliance Auditing
This will include high-volume remedial programs and small-to-medium installations, ensuring strict adherence to current building regulations, golden thread documentation, and high service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Full P&L responsibility for a £4m passive fire contract.
Management of operational teams, including specialist fire-stopping engineers, FIRAS/BM TRADA supervisors, and support staff.
Ensuring KPIs, SLAs, and compliance standards are met and exceeded.
Driving Health & Safety, quality control, and rigorous technical performance standards.
Managing subcontractors and specialist supply chain relationships.
Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, acting as the technical lead for passive fire queries.
Identifying commercial opportunities and organic growth within the contract.
About You
Proven background in Passive Fire Protection (essential).
Strong working knowledge of fire door legislation, fire stopping materials, and compartmentalization requirements.
Previous experience in a Contract Manager, Senior Operations Manager, or similar leadership role.
Commercially aware with experience managing budgets, P&L, and margin performance.
Confident communicator who can manage client expectations and hold their ground regarding safety and compliance.
Practical and solutions-focused, comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
Accreditations such as FIRAS, BM TRADA, or IFE certifications are highly desirable.
What's On Offer
£70,000-£80,000 salary + competitive benefits package.
Long-term contract stability on a high-value, established framework.
Senior leadership role with genuine autonomy.
Career growth: The opportunity to shape the passive fire division within a major M&E contractor
