Senior Quantity Surveyor – Residential Groundworks

About the Company

Our client is a well-established residential groundworks contractor with an annual turnover of approximately £70 million, delivering high-quality infrastructure and groundwork packages for leading housebuilders across the South East and Midlands. With a strong reputation for safety, quality, and consistent delivery, they have built long-standing relationships within the residential sector.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are now seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based in Bedford.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong residential groundworks experience to take a leading role within a growing contractor. The successful candidate will oversee the commercial and financial performance of multiple projects, ensuring profitability, compliance, and efficient delivery from tender stage through to final account.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the commercial management of multiple residential groundworks projects
* Prepare, review, and manage budgets, cost plans, and financial forecasts
* Oversee interim valuations, variations, and final account agreements
* Monitor project costs, cash flow, and CVRs
* Manage subcontract procurement and accounts
* Provide commercial guidance to site teams and junior surveyors
* Identify and drive value engineering opportunities
* Maintain accurate commercial records and reporting systems

Skills & Experience Required

* Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within residential groundworks
* Strong commercial and contractual knowledge (JCT/NEC)
* Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
* Excellent negotiation and leadership skills
* Ability to mentor and support junior team members
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
* Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (HNC/HND/Degree preferred)
