Salary: £60-75,000 + Car Allowance + Package
3 days per week in Birmingham, remainder in Bedford

About the Birmingham Project
You will be the Building Services lead on a major commercial refurbishment and extension project in central Birmingham, valued at approximately £18–19m. The scheme includes a full internal cut‑and‑carve, reconfigured floorplates to create modern Grade A office space, restoration of retained heritage façade elements, construction of a new fifth‑floor extension, a roof terrace overlooking the city, and full upgrades to building services, core areas and circulation routes. The project is technically complex due to the combination of structural alterations, retained elements and integration of new build components within an existing frame.
Role Overview
You will manage all building services (MEP) activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring coordinated, compliant and buildable solutions. You will work closely with design consultants, subcontractors and internal delivery teams, overseeing design development, technical reviews, installation quality and commissioning. When not on site in Birmingham, you will support pre‑construction, design reviews and wider technical input from the Bedford office.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead all MEP design and technical coordination on the Birmingham project
• Manage building services input through pre‑construction, design development and delivery
• Review and challenge MEP designs for compliance, buildability and value engineering
• Oversee MEP subcontractor procurement, scopes, design responsibilities and technical submissions
• Chair MEP design reviews, technical workshops and coordination meetings
• Ensure services integrate effectively with structural alterations and new build elements
• Monitor installation quality, testing and commissioning
• Ensure MEP works align with programme, cost plans and construction methodology
• Liaise with statutory authorities, utilities providers and specialist consultants
• Support tendering activity and early‑stage MEP strategy development from Bedford
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to internal teams and project stakeholders
Person Specification
• Experienced Building Services Manager or Senior MEP Manager
• Strong background in main contracting or major MEP subcontracting
• Proven experience on complex refurbishment, cut‑and‑carve or mixed new‑build/retained‑structure schemes
• Strong understanding of MEP design, coordination and installation
• Experience on commercial, public sector or heritage‑influenced projects
• Confident managing multiple design disciplines and influencing technical decisions
• Strong knowledge of commissioning, services integration and building regulations
• Experience working with consultants, subcontractors, clients and statutory authorities
• HNC / HND / Degree in Building Services Engineering or related discipline
• Proactive, collaborative and solutions‑focused approach
