Senior Quantity Surveyor

An established and ambitious main contractor is seeking a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its team, based out of its office in the South.

This is a dynamic and fast-paced environment, offering the opportunity to further develop your commercial expertise, negotiation skills, and strategic input across a diverse portfolio of construction projects.

The Role

You will take full commercial responsibility for major construction projects across sectors such as commercial, education, healthcare, and mixed-use developments.

The role involves managing project budgets, valuations, forecasting, subcontract procurement, and cost control procedures to ensure financial performance is achieved while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance standards.

You will also support and mentor junior members of the commercial team, helping to drive performance and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Implement and maintain effective cost control procedures in line with company policy
Manage project budgets, valuations, and monthly forecasting of final accounts
Produce accurate cost value reconciliations (CVRs)
Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly commercial reports
Lead value engineering and cost optimisation exercises
Work closely with design teams to ensure cost-effective project delivery
Prepare and manage project start budgets in collaboration with pre-construction and delivery teams
Procure subcontractors, materials, and services in line with company governance
Administer subcontract accounts, including orders, payments, and variations
Assess, negotiate, and agree variations within authority levels
Monitor project cash flow and financial reporting
Present commercial updates at project and internal review meetings
Collaborate with site teams and supply chain partners to maximise efficiency and value
Maintain awareness of modern construction methods, procurement routes, and market conditions
Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, Building Regulations, HSE legislation, and sustainability standards
Mentor and develop junior commercial staff
