Quantity Surveyor
We are working with a family owned business that work on high value complex industrial programmes and as such we are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with a background in groundworks and civil engineering to join our team working on residential groundworks projects around the M5 corridor based in Taunton.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the commercial management of residential groundwork packages, working on a range of housing development projects across the South West. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident managing multiple sites, liaising with site teams, and maintaining a firm grip on cost control from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities:
* Commercial management of multiple groundworks packages for residential developments.
* Preparing and submitting applications for payment, valuations, and variations. • Monitoring project costs and progress, ensuring financial targets are met.
* Negotiating and procuring sub-contract packages.
* Preparing bills of quantities, schedules of works and cost plans.
* Producing monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and forecasting.
* Managing change control, claims, and final accounts.
* Liaising closely with site managers, clients, engineers, and other stakeholders.
* Ensuring adherence to contractual terms and company procedures.
* Identifying risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
Experience/skills required:
* Proven experience as a QS within the groundworks or civil engineering sector, specifically in residential / housebuilding projects.
* Minimum 3-5 years in a similar role (not suitable for entry-level or graduate positions).
* Strong commercial acumen and understanding of contracts, particularly NEC/JCT forms.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
* Proficient in MS Office and relevant QS software (e.g., Excel, Causeway, or similar).
* Full UK driving licence (travel to site and regional offices required).
