The Opportunity
We are working with a leading UK main contractor delivering a major infrastructure project in Bridgwater, forming part of a landmark, future‑facing manufacturing development at the centre of the UK’s green industrial transition.
This is a high‑value, technically complex project, involving large‑scale building works, ancillary assets and extensive site‑wide infrastructure. As part of continued project growth, the contractor is expanding their commercial leadership team and is looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Manager (Project Controls focused) to work alongside an established project controls function.
This role offers long‑term stability on a flagship project, with genuine scope to influence commercial strategy, risk management and financial performance.
The Role – Commercial Manager (Project Controls)
As Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the commercial and project controls elements of a major construction programme, ensuring strong profit, cash and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
* Commercial leadership with a focus on profit, cash flow and cost control
* Managing commercial aspects of NEC‑based contracts
* Procurement, tendering and management of subcontract works packages through to final account
* Administration of contracts, variations and change control
* Negotiation and agreement of compensation events while maintaining strong client relationships
* Resolving payment issues and managing disallowed costs
* Supporting and collaborating closely with the project controls team
* Deputising for the Project Commercial Director as required
* Proactive identification and mitigation of commercial risk
* Detailed cost checking and financial analysis of labour, plant and materials
About You
This role will suit a commercially astute professional with experience on major construction or infrastructure projects, comfortable operating in a complex, high‑value environment.
You’ll ideally have:
* A proven background as a Commercial Manager on large construction projects
* Strong knowledge of NEC contracts
* Experience within a main contracting environment (CM or PM models beneficial)
* Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder‑management skills
* A strategic approach to commercial decision‑making and project financial performance
* Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
