Assistant Quantity Surveyor
I am currently recruiting on behalf of a respected and growing regional contractor a well‑established regional contractor seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of a diverse range of construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their QS career who wants hands‑on experience, structured development, and exposure to full project lifecycle commercial duties.

As part of the commercial team, you will work closely with a Senior QS or Commercial Manager to deliver high‑quality commercial support for external clients.
The Role
You will assist with the commercial administration of projects and gradually take ownership of your own workload as your experience grows. Responsibilities include:

Working in strict accordance with commercial tracking systems

Preparing bills of quantities and re‑measuring works
*
Supporting procurement of subcontractors in line with project strategy
*
Assisting with cost management across multiple projects
*
Undertaking cost/value analysis and supporting cost value reporting
*
Pricing variations and assisting with agreement of valuations and final accounts
*
Compiling programme‑based cost‑to‑complete forecasts and project budgets
*
Supporting the identification and management of project risks and opportunities
*
Providing commercial advice to site teams when required
*
Preparing and analysing tender costings
*
Assisting with contractual claims and maintaining accurate project records
You may also lead smaller projects with support from a Senior QS as your capability develops.
What You’ll Bring
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

A degree in a construction‑related discipline, or current enrolment in final‑year studies
*
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
*
Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise workloads
*
A proactive, flexible, and enthusiastic approach to work
*
IT literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and confidence working with data
*
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites when required
Experience within construction, tendering, subcontractor administration, or cost reporting is desirable but not essential — the company provides strong mentoring and development.
