Your new role
Our client is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their established commercial team based in Cheshire. You will work closely with Project Quantity Surveyors and the wider commercial team to support the financial and contractual management of healthcare construction projects. This is a hands-on role with exposure to both client and subcontractor relationships, where you will play a key part in ensuring cost control, value recovery, and accurate commercial reporting across live projects.
Responsibilities will include:
Supporting Project Quantity Surveyors in the commercial delivery of healthcare construction projects.
Assisting with the preparation, issue, and evaluation of subcontract tender packages in line with contract conditions and company procedures.
Attending internal and external pre- and post-contract meetings.
Producing, issuing, and managing subcontract orders, ensuring accurate records and compliance.
Administering subcontractor accounts, including valuation, re-measurement, certification, and timely payment processes.
Assisting with the agreement and management of contract variations, including forecasting final account implications.
Carrying out material take-offs as required.
Supporting weekly and monthly subcontractor and supplier valuations.
Assisting in the preparation of monthly cost reports in line with commercial and accounts procedures.
Supporting external valuations, client applications, and invoice production where required.
Monitoring procurement schedules and assisting in ensuring key project milestones are achieved.
Assisting with cash flow management by supporting cost control and value maximisation activities.
Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams to support successful project delivery.
Ensuring all commercial systems and project records are accurately maintained and updated.
Supporting negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors on pricing and final accounts.
Assisting with onsite material management and procurement activities.
Supporting pre-construction and ad hoc commercial duties as required.
What you will need to succeed:
Some experience in a Quantity Surveying / Assistant QS / Commercial Assistant role within construction or engineering.
Exposure to subcontractor management and procurement processes.
Strong numerical and analytical skills with good attention to detail.
Understanding of basic construction contracts and commercial processes.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Ability to manage workload and priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard office systems.
A proactive, professional, and diligent approach to work.
Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or Construction (or working towards).
