Role Overview
The Estimator / Quantity Surveyor will support the business through accurate cost planning, effective commercial management, and detailed analysis of project requirements across works valued between £1,000 and £2,000,000.
The position combines estimating and quantity surveying duties to ensure competitive pricing, strong commercial governance, and profitability across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing cost estimates, pricing schedules, bills of quantities, and tender documentation
Carrying out site visits, surveys, material take-offs, and labour calculations
Reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope, risks, and opportunities
Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and secure value for money
Managing valuations, variations, final accounts, applications for payment, and cash flow forecasting
Maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, and the supply chain
Supporting project teams with commercial guidance and contributing to continuous improvement
Requirements
Experience as an Estimator or Quantity Surveyor in building maintenance, construction, or facilities management
Background working on projects from £1k to £2m
Strong technical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building maintenance
High numerical accuracy and strong attention to detail
Proficiency with estimating software and MS Excel
Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract conditions
Strong communication, negotiation, and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to tight deadlines
Full UK driving licence
Desirable Requirements
Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline
Working towards or holding MRICS or other recognised qualification
Experience with JCT, NEC, and other standard forms of contract
Knowledge of building pathology and remedial works
Experience with frameworks, term contracts, and public sector procurement
Familiarity with estimating software
