Assistant Estimator

Our client is a long-established, family-owned main contractor delivering projects across London and the South East.
Operating for over 30 years, they work across a broad mix of sectors including education, healthcare, residential, commercial, and heritage. Their delivery capability spans design & build, traditional contracting, and refurbishment/conservation works.
Project values vary significantly from smaller schemes around £100k through to major projects up to £30m giving exposure to a wide range of build types and complexities. A strong, well-established supply chain underpins their ability to consistently deliver high-quality outcomes for a loyal client base.
The Role
An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Estimator to join the commercial team, supporting the pricing and tendering of construction projects across multiple sectors.
This role will suit someone looking to build on existing estimating experience, or a commercially aware individual aiming to develop a long-term career within preconstruction.
Working alongside senior estimators and commercial leads, you’ll gain exposure to the full tendering process from initial enquiry through to submission.
Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and tender submissions
* Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify scope and requirements
* Support in breaking down packages and preparing bills of quantities where required
* Issue enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers
* Analyse and compare subcontractor quotations
* Maintain and develop relationships with the supply chain
* Assist in compiling cost plans and pricing schedules
* Support with value engineering exercises
* Help identify risks, gaps, and opportunities within tender returns
* Maintain accurate records of tender documents and correspondence
* Assist in preparing tender reports and cost breakdowns
* Ensure all documentation is organised and up to date
* Work closely with estimators, commercial teams, and operational staff
* Support the handover of successful tenders to delivery teams
* Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes
Requirements:
* Must have previous construction experience, preferably in estimating or surveying
