Senior SHEQ Advisor
Location: Midlands (site-based across multiple major infrastructure projects)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior SHEQ Advisor to support the delivery of major infrastructure and civil engineering projects across the Midlands. This role will take a lead position in promoting and maintaining high standards of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ), ensuring compliance with both statutory requirements and company procedures.
Working closely with operational and commercial teams, you will provide practical guidance, challenge unsafe behaviours, and drive a proactive safety culture across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day SHEQ support across multiple live project sites
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and company policies
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and assurance checks
Produce and review risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and safe systems of work
Lead incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
Monitor and report on SHEQ performance, trends, and KPIs
Support and influence operational teams to embed a positive safety culture
Deliver briefings, toolbox talks, and SHEQ-related training where required
Liaise with clients, contractors, and external stakeholders on SHEQ matters
Assist in maintaining ISO management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
Support continuous improvement initiatives across projectsRequirements
Proven experience in a Senior SHEQ Advisor or similar role
Strong background in construction or infrastructure projects
Civils experience preferred (e.g. highways, rail, utilities, earthworks)
NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
Membership of IOSH (minimum), working towards or holding CMIOSH desirable
Good working knowledge of UK health & safety and environmental legislation
Experience with audits, inspections, and incident investigations
Strong communication skills with the ability to challenge and influence at all levels
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across sitesDesirable
Experience on major frameworks (e.g. National Highways, Network Rail, HS2)
Lead Auditor qualification
Environmental or quality-related qualifications
