Project Estimator – Permanent Position

Location: Southampton Salary: Up to £60,000 DOE + Benefits

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Project Estimator to join a rapidly growing contractor based in Southampton. Originally established as a Mechanical & Electrical contractor, the business has expanded into construction delivery, with the division going from strength to strength. This role is a key strategic hire with genuine progression opportunities as the department continues to scale.

The company delivers the full range of Mechanical, Electrical and Construction services for refits across the South Coast and wider regions including Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex, Dorset and Central London. Their work is predominantly public authority construction, supporting clients such as the NHS and County Contracts, with project values typically ranging from £350k to £2 million.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail‑driven Estimator with experience in construction or refurbishment projects, particularly within NHS or public sector frameworks.

The Role

As the Project Estimator, you will play a vital role in pricing works, preparing tenders, and supporting the delivery of meaningful public‑sector projects. You’ll work closely with clients, subcontractors and the internal project team to ensure accurate, competitive and compliant submissions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction and refurbishment projects

• Analyse drawings, specifications and documentation to prepare time, cost, materials and labour estimates

• Liaise with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing and technical information

• Assist in preparing tender submissions for public sector frameworks and competitive bids

• Support Project Managers with cost analysis and budget monitoring throughout the project lifecycle

• Keep up to date with market trends, supply costs and best practices in public sector construction

Ideal Candidate

• Proven experience as an Estimator within NHS or wider public‑sector construction

• Strong understanding of public procurement processes and compliance standards

• Excellent analytical and numerical skills with strong attention to detail

• Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Excel

• Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
