Playground Designer
Norfolk
Full-time | Permanent | Office-based
Design extraordinary play spaces with an established bespoke play space designer and builder.
Your new company
We're recruiting on behalf of an established bespoke play space designer and builder that creates high-quality, handcrafted children's play equipment and play areas for clients across the UK and internationally. The business is known for delivering imaginative, custom-made projects using sustainable timber, with a full-service offer spanning concept design, planning, manufacture, installation and aftercare. Safety, durability and creativity sit at the heart of everything they do.
From themed adventure playgrounds and natural play spaces to bespoke structures inspired by castles, pirate ships, trains, tree houses and replica landmarks, this is a business where no two projects are the same. With over 30 years' experience and a strong reputation for craftsmanship and attention to detail, they offer a fantastic opportunity for a designer who wants to work on genuinely distinctive projects from concept through to completion.
Your new opportunity
They are now looking to hire an experienced Playground Designer to join the team in Norfolk. This role would suit someone who enjoys combining creative playground design with technical accuracy, and who wants to see their ideas move from initial concept through to a fully built environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing imaginative, practical and safe designs that can be manufactured and installed to a high standard.
What you'll be doing
Designing bespoke playgrounds and custom play equipment from brief through to concept and developed design.
Producing accurate 2D CAD layouts, technical drawings and presentation visuals / renders.
Interpreting client briefs, site information and design themes to create engaging, practical and manufacturable play environments.
Working closely with internal teams to ensure designs are aligned with buildability, cost, timescales and installation requirements.
Designing with safety and compliance in mind, including relevant playground regulations and industry standards.
Supporting the development of creative, themed and natural timber play environments for a wide range of clients.
What they're looking for
Previous experience in playground design, play equipment design, or a closely related design discipline such as landscape, product, timber structure or bespoke construction design.
Strong experience using AutoCAD and/or other relevant 2D / 3D design software.
Ability to create layouts, visuals and technical drawings from a brief and site information.
A creative mindset, strong spatial awareness and a genuine interest in designing engaging outdoor environments.
Strong communication, organisation and time management skills.
Knowledge of timber construction, bespoke manufacturing or playground safety standards such as BS EN 1176 would be highly advantageous.
What you get in return
Opportunity to work on highly bespoke and visually distinctive projects rather than standardised products.
Join a quality-led business with a strong reputation for creativity, craftsmanship and longevity.
Be part of a full-service design-and-build environment where you can see your concepts become reality.
Work on projects for commercial and private clients, with a broad and varied portfolio
