Technical Design Manager

The successful candidate will be a Technical Design Engineer or Manager with experience in a similar role within the construction design and build or manufacturing and installation sectors, including but not limited to modular buildings, timber frames, RC, structural steel or structures.

Our client has experienced a period of significant growth and indeed is set on an envious upwards trajectory over the next 5-10 years and consequently wishes to appoint a high calibre Technical Manager. The role requires a suitably qualified and experienced professional with strong Revit and CAD skills to drive the technical team, oversee project drawings from concept to production, and support innovation in project installations. You will have a good understanding of general building practise and building regulations and ideally experience of working within a similar sector.

The Role

* You’ll lead a talented team, collaborate across business functions, and play a hands-on role in producing high-quality construction drawings for a wide variety of projects

* This role offers the chance to shape Revit capabilities, ensure regulatory compliance, and contribute directly to both the production and sales processes.

* Oversee the preparation of concept drawings and communicate these with appropriate parties to produce buildable solutions and winning proposals

* Complete audits to ensure designs adhere to the required standards and best practice

* Lead the team in verification, validation, and certification of all designs

* Day to day management of the department, including supporting team development

* Liaise with financial on scope and cost context for technical designs and drawings

* Ensure correct engineering rigour on all technical elements for the company and team

* Support the wider business in leading technical client meetings and interviews

* Building and maintaining client relationships, ensuring positive commercial outcomes for all

* Producing management reports on time and co-operating with internal departments

* Help to improve the supply chain and sub-contractor partnering process

* Ensure a high level of teamwork and cohesion between all levels of staff

* Chair and direct regular meetings with staff to discuss progress, whilst liaising with other senior managers in regard to process improvement and resource optimisation

The Person

* Proven experience in a similar role within the construction design and build or manufacturing and installation sectors, including but not limited to modular buildings, timber frames, RC, structural steel or structures

* Possess confidence, passion, tenacity and drive, and the ability to communicate at all levels

* Experience of technical drawing or design management covering a wide range of techniques, disciplines, values, sectors and complexities

* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to adapt your style to non-technical audiences if required

* Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to use own initiative as well as work collaboratively when leading a team

* Using your own creativity and initiative to ensure the development high standard designs

* Excellent attention to detail which can be maintained when working under pressure and within a fast-paced environment

* Confident in planning activities and managing the execution of conflicting workloads

* Demonstrative experience in implementing technical improvements or efficiencies

* Demonstrable experience in managing teams

* IT proficient in a range of project related software, particularly AutoCAD and Revit
