Lead Rail Engineer

Location: West Midlands

Project: Light Rail Infrastructure
Contract Duration: 12–18 months
Start Date: Mid June to early July
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 17:30

The Lead Engineer will provide senior technical leadership and assurance, ensuring engineering activities support the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of a major light rail infrastructure project.

Key Responsibilities

Act as technical authority for the assigned discipline and scope of works
Ensure correct application of designs, specifications, and industry standards
Lead the resolution of complex technical queries (TQs) and engineering risks
Provide constructability, methodology, and sequencing input to the delivery team
Define inspection requirements, hold points, and acceptance criteria
Review, endorse, and sign off as‑built documentation and handover records
Mentor and support Engineers and Trainee Engineers on site

Essential Experience & Skills

Proven experience in a Lead Engineer or Senior Engineer role
Strong background in rail, light rail, or major infrastructure projects
Excellent knowledge of engineering standards, assurance, and quality processes
Ability to manage technical risk and support safe construction delivery
Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
