Design Manager – The Company
Our client is a growing construction business backed by a substantial Healthcare development group, currently building out its in-house contracting capability across the South of England.
The business specialises in delivering technically challenging, ultra high-end healthcare and medical developments, with projects typically ranging from £50m to £70m in value.
With a strong pipeline of secured work and long-term investment in place, this is an excellent opportunity to join a growing contractor focused on quality-led project delivery and long-term expansion.
Design Manager – The Role
The Design Manager will play a key role in coordinating and managing the design process on a flagship Winchester-based healthcare development.
Working closely with consultants, operational teams, subcontractors, and commercial teams, you will ensure design information is coordinated, technically compliant, and issued in line with programme requirements.
The role offers a hybrid working arrangement with a mix of site, office, and remote working.
Typical duties & responsibilities:
* Managing the design process from pre-construction through delivery
* Coordinating consultant and subcontractor design information
* Reviewing technical drawings and design submissions
* Managing RFIs and design change processes
* Ensuring design information is issued in line with programme requirements
* Working closely with operational teams to resolve technical issues
* Attending design, coordination, and progress meetings
* Supporting buildability and value engineering reviews
* Ensuring compliance with statutory and technical standards
* Managing design risk and programme impact
Design Manager – The Person
* Previous experience as a Design Manager within main contracting not architetctural background
* Experience on healthcare, commercial, or technically complex M&E projects preferred
* Good technical and construction knowledge
* Strong communication and coordination skills
* Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deadlines
* Main contractor experience essential
* Stable career history preferred
