Operations Supervisor
Our client is a well-established and highly respected business operating within the trade and construction industry, based in Saffron Walden. Known for their exceptional customer service and reliability, they are currently seeking a proactive, hands-on, and organised individual to join their team. This is a pivotal role where you will act as the business owner’s "right-hand person," overseeing daily operations and leading a small, dedicated team.
This is a dynamic, multi-faceted role that bridges the gap between daily hands-on customer service and operational leadership. You will be the face of the business at the trade counter, a leader to the team, and a strategic partner to the owner. The ideal candidate will be just as comfortable answering sales inquiries and checking deliveries as they are analysing processes to improve business efficiency.
As the Operations Supervisor you will be:
* Overseeing and motivating a small, close-knit team, ensuring daily tasks are completed efficiently and a positive work environment is maintained.
* Acting as the trusted second-in-command to the business owner, assisting with daily operational decisions and stepping in to manage things in their absence.
* Providing exceptional, hands-on service to trade and retail customers visiting the counter.
* Confidently handling inbound phone calls, manage email correspondence, and process sales inquiries and orders.
* Managing the procurement of products, maintaining optimal stock levels and negotiating effectively with suppliers.
* Checking, verifying, and logging incoming stock deliveries for accuracy and quality.
* Quality-check products prior to dispatch or delivery to clients to ensure 100% accuracy.
* Proactively review existing operational processes and software systems, suggesting and implementing improvements to boost efficiency.
As the Operations Supervisor you will have:
* Previous experience working within the building, construction, or trade merchant industry is highly desirable.
* Proven experience supervising or leading a small team, with the ability to inspire and delegate effectively.
Strong organisational skills with experience in purchasing, stock control, and logistics (Goods In/Goods Out).
* Comfortable using inventory/sales systems with a keen eye for improving digital or manual processes.
* Excellent communication skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.
* Proactive "can-do" attitude – happy to roll up your sleeves and help where needed.
* High level of reliability and trustworthiness.
* Meticulous attention to detail.
