Quantity Surveyor (8 Month Contract)

An established Essex-based construction company is seeking a temporary Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of a new infrastructure project in Cambridge.

This is an excellent opportunity for a QS with a few years of experience who is confident working within NEC contracts and supporting live civil engineering projects.

Project Type: Carriageway widening works to accommodate a new footway/cycleway
Contract Type: NEC4 Option C
Project Duration: 32 weeks
Project Value: Approximately £2 million
Start Date: 27 May 2026
Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support the commercial and contractual management of the project, including:

Cost management and forecasting
Management of subcontractor accounts
Valuations and payment applications
Compensation event administration under NEC4
Change control and commercial reporting
Assisting with cost/value reconciliation
Supporting project delivery teams with commercial matters
Maintaining accurate project records and documentation
Applicants should ideally have:

A few years' Quantity Surveying experience within construction or civil engineering
Working knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly NEC4 Option C
Strong commercial awareness
Good communication and organisational skills
Ability to work collaboratively with site and management teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard QS reporting processes
Desirable Experience
Highways or infrastructure project experience
Experience working on local authority or public realm schemes
Degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
