Architect
Job Title: Project Architect / Technical Design Manager | Prime Residential Contractor
Location: Chelsea, London (Office & Site Based)
Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 + Package (Dependent on Experience)
Role Type: Permanent
The Opportunity
Are you a talented Architect or Technical Designer feeling detached from the actual construction process? Tired of sitting at a desk drawing concepts that get value engineered away?
We are representing a leading high-end residential main contractor based in Chelsea who are synonymous with luxury. They specialise in the structural alteration, refurbishment of Grade I & II listed buildings, and the construction of bespoke super-prime residences with project values reaching £15M+.
They are looking for an Architect or Technical Design Manager who wants to sit at the heart of the delivery process, bridging the gap between the external design team, the client, and the site team to ensure flawless execution of luxury finishes.
The Role
Working directly alongside the Project Directors and Site Managers, you will take ownership of the design coordination, buildability, and detailed construction packages. This isn't about conceptual planning permissions; it’s about resolving complex site details, managing specialist sub-contractor design packages, and ensuring the highest standards of luxury craftsmanship.
Your focus will include:
*
Design Coordination: Reviewing and interrogating external architectural/interior design packages to ensure they are buildable and structurally sound.
*
Technical Detailing: Producing high-quality construction detailing (RIBA Stages 4–5), specifically for intricate junctions, bespoke joinery, stone layouts, and integration of complex MEP/AV services.
*
Sub-contractor Management: Reviewing and approving workshop drawings from specialist artisan sub-contractors (e.g., bespoke glazing, specialist metalwork).
*
Site Support: Conducting regular site walk-throughs to resolve design queries on-the-fly and ensure works match the approved design intent.
The Candidate
*
Qualifications: RIBA Part III Architect or an experienced Architectural Technologist (CIAT).
*
Experience: 3+ years post-qualification experience. Experience working directly for a contractor is highly desirable, but we will strongly consider practice-based architects with an extensive portfolio of delivered high-end London residential projects.
*
Technical Might: A master of construction detailing, construction methods, and building regulations. Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit is essential.
*
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written English. You must be comfortable managing demanding external architects and interior designers, as well as communicating practically with site-based trades.
What’s in it for you?
*
A chance to work on "trophy" homes in the most exclusive postcodes in the world (SW3, SW1, W8).
*
The unique satisfaction of seeing your technical solutions built in real-time, working with the finest materials and craftsmen in the industry
