Commercial Manager – Retail Fit Out & Interiors

Location: Staffordshire (Office Based with UK-Wide Travel)

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected interiors and fit out contractor who delivers fast-paced projects across the retail, leisure and commercial sectors throughout the UK.

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to take ownership of the commercial function across multiple interior fit out and refurbishment projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute individual who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and managing projects from initial enquiry through to final account.

The Role

Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will be responsible for the full commercial management of projects ranging from approximately £100,000 to £1 million in value. Projects are typically delivered within fast-track programmes, often under framework agreements and schedule of rates arrangements.

The successful candidate will manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring robust commercial control, accurate reporting and strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

* Produce feasibility budgets, estimates and tender submissions.

* Prepare detailed cost plans, quantity take-offs and rate build-ups.

* Develop estimates from drawings, specifications and client requirements.

* Review tender documentation to ensure all project requirements are accurately captured.

* Procure subcontractors and suppliers, negotiate packages and place orders.

* Manage project costs, valuations, forecasts and commercial reporting.

* Monitor financial performance and identify risks and opportunities.

* Prepare and negotiate final accounts with clients and subcontractors.

* Work closely with operational and project management teams to support project delivery.

* Ensure adequate allowances are included for Health & Safety and environmental compliance.

* Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.

* Represent the business professionally during client meetings and site visits.

About You

We are looking for an experienced commercial professional with a proven track record within the construction, interiors or fit out sector.

Essential Requirements

* Minimum 5 years' experience in a Commercial Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor or similar commercial role.

* Background within retail fit out, interiors, refurbishment or fast-track construction projects.

* Experience managing multiple live projects simultaneously.

* Strong understanding of both pre-contract and post-contract commercial management.

* Excellent negotiation and procurement skills.

* Ability to work independently and take ownership of commercial performance.

* Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.

* Full UK driving licence.

* Comfortable travelling to project sites across the UK when required.

Desirable Experience

* Retail, leisure or commercial interior fit out projects.

* Framework agreements and Schedule of Rates (SOR) contracts.

* Principal Contractor and/or specialist subcontractor experience.

* Experience working on both new fit out and refurbishment schemes within live trading environments.
